It All About? Content! When I get a project and my client can only give me a rough idea of what they're trying to accomplish, I know I'm in trouble. Basically, they're hoping that I'm going to come up with some amazing design which will clarify the direction that the project should take. Sometimes it works out really well but I'm always surprised when it does because it shouldn't. Good design should come out of the goal of expressing and communicating certain ideas, not the other way around. The Web is the same way. We've all been to sites where there's really cool graphics and animations that make you say "whoah!" They're really neat and I find they sometimes give me new design ideas. However, I can also tell you that I won't revisit those sites very often. Probably never. The sites that keep me coming back for more are the sites that offer me interesting information. It's important to me that these sites are well-designed and functional but the content is what keeps me coming back. So, before paying someone to design your site, think about what you want to achieve. Do you want to create a homepage to showcase your company's product line? Do you want to create an entertaining site? An instructional site? Answering these questions will quickly tell you who your intended audience is and what kind of information you should offer. In the end, you'll save design money and you'll have a
site that your audience values and will want

I know it may seem strange to hear a designer say that but it's quite
true.
