Preflighting Your Design Project
Pmagnifying glass with manreflighting refers to the process that a designer goes through (or should go through) before releasing files to a printer or service bureau for film to be made. There is an extensive list of things that a designer should check to ensure that a project will output as it should. There are software programs that will assist a designer in these pursuits and will help save a lot of time by checking a lot of little details. Here are a just few items that should be on every designer's preflight checklist:

  • Are all high-resolution images included?

  • Are all font files (screen and printer) files included? Have only PostScript fonts been used?

  • Have the latest set of lasers of your project been included?

  • Have the pages been put into printer spreads?

  • Has text been checked to ensure against overflow?

  • Is there is an 1/8" bleed on the outside edge of bleed areas?

  • Are the correct number of colors being used? Spot colors? CMYK?slug
