Scans: Useful & Inexpensive Web pages images Because Web images are low-resolution images and are not intended to be printed, flatbed scans are ideal for this purpose. Using an image-editing program, an image can be adjusted on-screen to the color taste of the designer. A designer only needs to be concerned with how the image appears in low-resolution and on-screen. Grayscale images A good flatbed scanner can give a designer sufficient quality to produce high-resolution scans in grayscale. This type of image is perfect to use in newsletters and books and to use to create duotones, tritones and quadtones. Position images If a designer is working on a layout for a project and is not sure what images will be used, it doesn't make much sense to have expensive drum scans done at that point. A designer can use a flatbed scanner (which he/she probably owns) to place in a layout for position. When the project is finalized, or when the final photos have been chosen, drum scans can be made and then replace the lower-quality images. Line art Logos
and drawings can be scanned effectively by using a flatbed scanner. A
flatbed scan of a piece of line art can be used in professional printing
if it is scanned with sufficient resolution and detail. Typically 1,200dpi
is sufficient resolution for bitmap
artwork at 100% reproduction size.
