What
Is QuarkXPress?
 uarkXPress
is a page-layout program that you can use to
bring graphic elements and text together into a single or multi-paged
document layout. Similar products include PageMaker
and InDesign. Quark was created back in the 1980s
and quickly rose to become one of the market leaders in the world of electronic
page layout and design.
Available on both the Macintosh and Windows platforms, you can use Quark
to:
- Create single or many columns of text based on master template pages.
Each document can contain many different master pages.
- Autonumber pages and sections numerically, alphabetically or with
a combination of the two.
- Resize, frame and border graphic images.
- Size, color and manipulate words and individual text characters.
- Color some images and text in either Pantone spot colors, CMYK or
other color models.
- Rotate images and text.
- Overlay images and text.
- Check a document for spelling.
- Create style sheets to speed up repetitive styling of text.
- Find and replace words or passages of text
The program is an expensive one and retails for approximately $700. You
can also purchase a number of Quark "XTensions" which will expand
the functionality of the program even further. The program is published
by Quark, Inc.
Their website, which offers upgrades and user tips, can be found at www.quark.com.
