Presentation Programs: Putting on Quite a Show
T display monitoro me, there's really two levels of presentation programs available: the basic and the complex. The basic programs are quite easy to use while the complex programs have a big learning curve attached to them. Depending on what you're trying to do and the time-frame you have available, you can decide which level is best for your needs.

The basic: Microsoft's PowerPoint is really the only game in town when discussing easy-to-use presentation programs. Start the application and you're ready to go. PowerPoint comes with many templates that can be used as a starting point for creating a great presentation. With the click of a few buttons you can easily add animations, sounds, photos and even Quicktime movies to a presentation. The presentation can also be printed on an office printer to be proofed or to be used as handouts. The program is available for both Macintosh and Windows systems and translates well between the two platforms. Once you're done, you can view a presentation on-screen or send it to an output bureau or slide production house. The production house can create slides or overlays if your presentation is to be made using traditional presentation materials like a slide projector.

The complex: The other end of the scale belongs to a program by the name of Macromedia Director. Looking at this program, you might think that you need a video producer to properly run it. With Director, you can produce cross-platform, self-running or interactive presentations that are compact to transport and dazzling to see. Many informational CD-ROMs that contain audio and video are produced using Macromedia Director. As I said, however, there's a steep learning curve associated with this program and it takes quite awhile to produce a professional presentation for even the most experienced of users.

No matter which level of presentation you decide upon for your needs, be sure to either learn the program properly or work with an experienced designer. Though there are many who know how to roughly use PowerPoint, you'll want someone who knows how to use the program correctly from top to bottom. When your deadline tightens, you need to make major changes or if the presentation becomes very complex, you'll be glad that you did. Macromedia's site offers a list of vendors who are experts in producing Director presentations.slug
