Photoshop: Changing What We See
magnifying glass with woman hotoshop is an image-editing program which means that it works with bitmap-based artwork, like photographs, scanned art or any other artwork with soft edges. Photoshop is produced by Adobe, the company that also produces programs like Acrobat and Illustrator, and has been around for several years. Using Photoshop's basic features, you can do things like:

Adjust the tone, brightness, hue and saturation of an image.

Change an image's color depth and mode.

Create duotones, tritones and quadtones.

Either retouch or create image imperfections.

Change an image's file format to another file format.

Combine multiple images to create interesting montages of images, color and text.

Photoshop comes with a vast number of "plug-ins" which are small components that enable additional program features. The plug-ins that come with the program are mostly filters. These filters allow you to do things like add shading effects, static, lighting effects, blurs, sharpen an image, or even turn photos into simulated line drawings. There are also a number of companies that sell Photoshop-compatible plug-ins that add even more functionality to the program.

I've used Photoshop for over 8 years and I'm still finding new and interesting ways to use the tools in my work. Some artists/designers specialize in Photoshop and use the program exclusively to create. The possibilities with this program are as endless as your imagination.
