Drawing the Line with Adobe Illustrator
I mousellustrator is a flexible and versatile tool that you can use to create and modify vector-based artwork. By connecting vectors (points that you "plot" on a page), you can create illustrations and logos. This artwork can be reduced or enlarged as needed without any loss in quality. This is because the plotted points refer to specific coordinates in the file and can be mathematically enlarged or reduced as needed without sacrificing image quality.

Illustrator is a production tool that can be used to create artwork suitable for use in print, multimedia and online graphics. With Illustrator, you can:

  • Color artwork with preset or specially-mixed colors, gradients and patterns.
  • Distort, rotate and create special effects with text.
  • Create a wide variety of graphs and charts for presentations and printed publications.
  • Export artwork in EPS, GIF or JPEG file formats.
  • Convert scanned line art into vector artwork which can then be manipulated.
  • Put artwork or elements on different layers within the same file to keep them organized or to test different elements and variations.

Illustrator is a great tool for creating vector artwork. It is not, however, well-suited to act as a page-layout program. You wouldn't want to use it to create a newsletter or a brochure though some might try to persuade you differently. You could do it but I think you would regret it.

Illustrator is published for both Windows and Macintosh systems by Adobe Systems and can be purchased for approximately $360 You can access tips, tricks and more information about Illustrator by visiting Adobe's website at www.adobe.com.slug
